Bruce Martyn

He started in broadcasting from his hometown, Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, at WSOO-AM in 1950. Bruce moved South in his career to the Detroit market at WCAR-AM in 1953. He was then heard on radio assignments throughout Michigan on a weekly talk show, as well as coverage of Michigan State football, the Detroit Pistons and Detroit Lions. When he started broadcasting home and away games of the Detroit Red Wings in 1964, he was "THE VOICE OF THE RED WINGS" for 31 seasons, during the highs and lows, ups and downs of the pro hockey franchise in the "Motor City." Bruce Martyn's coverage by radio was truly unique and after the 1994-95 Red Wing season, he retired. Elected by his NHL peers to the National Hockey League Hall of Fame in Toronto in 1991. Inducted into the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame in 1996.
