Courage Award
The Michigan Sports Hall of Fame Wright & Filippis "Courage Award" is being introduced in 2002 for the first time. The award will be presented annually "to an individual or group who has overcome significant challenges to attain remarkable achievement or contributed greatly to the success of others."
Tomorrow's Winner Award
The "Tomorrow's Winner" award was first introduced in 1995 and each year since, one female and one male high school athlete with both an academic and an athletic level of accomplishment that would indicate future success in both athletics and a career beyond athletics has been so recognized. A panel of sports writers from around the State of Michigan were asked to serve on the selection panel for this annual award. The award is presented to the Male and Female Student/Athlete of the Year in a vote by the panel.
The Tomorrow's Winners panel is made up of the following sportswriters from around the State: Denny Grall, Escanaba Press; Mick McCabe, Detroit Free Press; Jack Ebling, Lansing State Journal; Bob Becker, Grand Rapids Press; Jack Moss, Kalamazoo Gazette and Dean Howe, Flint Journal.
Each panel member can vote for one male and one female candidate. The finalists are determined by nominations submitted by each of the panelist. If a tie in the voting develops, the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame Board Member who oversees this award program is allowed to break the tie with a vote.
